not with wise and persuasive words
September 9, 2008
“For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling.
My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power.“ 1 Corinthians 2:2-5 NIV
Paul pours out his heart in a letter to the communities of the early church . . . and even reading those words thousands of years later I am convicted at the power of his demonstration of HUMILITY and SUBMISSION to God.
What are we doing?! Why are we really optimizing our websites, and spending hours on self-promotion, flexing our knowledge on social websites, or working on other business development efforts if it’s not IN DEPENDENCE of and FOR THE GLORY of GOD?
I confess my flesh forgets this. I have been guilty of elevating ‘me’ rather than asking God to lift me up if/when necessary to do the work HE has prepared in advance for me. God help us all walk by faith and not by site. “What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self?” Luke 9:25
